Senior Backend Engineer (Rails/Elixir)

We’re looking for an extremely talented senior backend engineer with deep knowledge of Ruby/Rails, Elixir/Phoenix, and DevOps. The ideal candidate has a passion for (and experience with) crafting well-made, scalable APIs and for architecting the infrastructure that supports them.

About You

  • BS in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or Equivalent Experience
  • Strong development skills, at least 3 years of experience with Rails
  • Strong understanding of REST
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Used to shipping quickly and shipping often (while still maintaining test coverage)
  • Willingness to work directly with frontend and client engineers to solve problems
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience shipping a product to a large user base
  • Nice to have: GraphQL experience
  • Production experience with Elixir and Phoenix a huge plus

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop the next generation of Hobnob’s internal API with a focus on high-performance and real-time features (using Elixir, naturally)
  • Concurrently maintain and improve Hobnob’s current architecture and API
  • Work across disciplines with other team members
  • Write organized and well-structured code
  • Debug hard problems
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Participate in pair programming
  • Test all the things

Pay scale:

$90-120k annual Stock options: commensurate with experience Minimum Time Off Vacation Policy - not only is it unlimited, but we ask our team to take a minimum amount of weeks off per year to recharge.

Location:

preference is in Honolulu, Hawaii, but will consider remote work with travel to Hawaii (!!). No visa sponsorships available at this time.
